- If the sore or ulcer has not yet suppurated, this herb will help reduce the swelling. If pus has already formed, or the sore has ulcerated, it can help discharge the pus.

- Dry-fried Angelica Root Chao Bai Zhi is used for Cold-Damp discharge.
- Charred Angelica Root Bai Zhi Tan stops bleeding, especially for menstrual spotting.
- Bai Zhi, Rz. seu Rx. Notopterygii Qiang Huo, Rz. Ligustici Gao Ben, and Hb. Asari Xi Xin are all acrid, warm and dispel Wind-Cold, Wind-Dampness and Cold-Dampness and relieve pain. Bai Zhi is best for pain in the forehead, eyebrows, teeth and gums, reduces swelling, expels pus and stops itching and vaginal discharge. Qiang Huo expels Wind in the muscles and exterior. it is best for neck and shoulder pain. Qiang Huo and Gao Ben both enter the Du channel, but Qiang Huo moves upward while Gao Ben moves downward. Hb. Asari Xi Xin disperses pathogenic Wind-Cold-Dampness and is especially good for opening the orifices and relieving pain. it also transforms Cold thin mucus.
