- Hong Teng, Hb. Houttuyniae Yu Xing Cao and Hb. Patriniae Bai Jiang Cao all are cooling, resolve toxicity, strongly disperse Blood and cool Blood Heat, and are all specific for treating Intestinal abscess. Hong Teng focuses on both the Intestines and breasts, Yu Xing Cao focuses on the Lungs and Bai Jiang Cao on the Intestines. They are often used together to treat gynecological abdominal pain from Blood Stasis.
- Both Hong Teng and Caulis Spatholobi Ji Xue Teng are frequently used together for abdominal pain due to Blood Stasis. They both invigorate the Blood, however Ji Xue Teng also supplements and has a relatively gentle pain-relieving action. Hong Teng is mores dispersing, cooling and able to resolve toxicity. It is an essential herb for abdominal pain due to pelvic inflammation.
- Both Hong Teng and Caulis Lonicerae Ren Dong Teng resolve toxicity, reduce sores, clear Heat, and treat Bi Syndrome and abdominal pain. Ren Dong Teng clears Wind-Heat from the collaterals to stop pain while Hong Teng resolves toxicity, invigorates Blood, stops pain and treats breast and abdominal abscesses.
