With Bai Shao, for Liver Blood Deficiency with Liver Qi Stagnation and vertigo, dizziness, thoracic and costal pain, and menstrual irregularity due to Liver Qi Stagnation.
With Bai Shao, Dang Gui and Bo He, for Liver Qi Stagnation with stress and emotional distress.
Fr. Gardeniae Zhi Zi 9g Clears Heat, reduces Fire, eliminates irritability, drains Damp-Heat, cools the Blood and relieves toxicity.
Flos Magnoliae Xin Yi Hua 9g Expels Wind-Cold and unblocks the nasal passages.
With Cang Er Zi, strongly unblocks nasal obstruction and sinus headache due to Wind-Cold or Wind-Heat for sinusitis and rhinitis with loss of smell.
With Cang Er Zi, Xi Xin and Bai Zhi, for Wind-Cold nasal obstruction and sinus headache.
With Xi Xin, lifts and spreads the clear Qi while unblocking the nasal orifices to treat headache and sinus distention, nasal congestion and thick nasal discharge due to Wind-Cold.

Rx. Angelicae Sinensis Dang Gui 9g Tonifies, invigorates and harmonizes the Blood, disperses Cold, reduces swelling, expels pus, generates flesh and alleviates pain.
With Bai Shao, regulates and harmonizes Qi and Blood and treats Blood Deficiency Heat.
Fr. Viticis Man Jing Zi 9g Disperses Wind, clears Heat, dispels Wind-Heat in the Liver channel and clears and benefits head and eyes.
With Bai Shao, soothes the Liver.
Rx. Angelicae Dahuricae Bai Zhi 6g Expels Wind, eliminates Dampness, unblocks the nasal passages, dispels Cold, alleviates pain, reduces swelling, eliminates toxins and expels pus.
With Xi Xin, for Wind-Cold induced headaches, sinus headaches, orbital headaches and toothache aggravated by cold air.
With Xi Xin, Xin Yi Hua and Cang Er Zi, for nasal congestion.
With Cang Er Zi and Xin Yi Hua, for headache due to nasal congestion with thick putrid discharge.
Fr. Xanthii Cang Er Zi 6g Disperses Wind and Dampness and opens nasal passages.
Rx. Rehmanniae Sheng Di Huang 9g Clears Heat, cools the Blood, nourishes Yin and generates fluids.
With Bai Shao, for Blood Deficiency Heat.

Hb. Menthae Bo He 6g Disperses Wind-Heat, cools and clears the head and eyes, benefits the throat and relieves Stagnation of Liver Qi.
With Bai Shao, Dang Gui and Chai Hu, for Liver Qi Stagnation with chest and flank distention or pain.
Rx. Sophorae Flavescentis Ku Shen 9g Clears Heat, disperses Wind and Dries Dampness.
Periostracum Serpentis She Tui 3g Dispels Wind, stops spasms and resolves toxins.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS

  • Epistaxis, usually a small amount of Blood (initial stage)
  • Nasal obstruction (early stage)
  • Tumor in the nose
  • Masses of the neck
  • Migraines
  • Vernet's syndrome
  • Disappearance of the mouth opening
  • Choking sensation while drinking
  • Hoarseness
  • Blindness
  • Usually asymptomatic at the early stage
  • The tumor may appear as a Cauliflower-like nodule or ulceration on the nasopharynx or as membrane erosion of abnormal color
  • If the tumor infiltrates to the submucosal layer, the surface of the membrane will be smooth and the nasopharynx will be depressed
  • Cranial nerve involvement is reflected by:
    Paralysis of the eyeball
    Facial hypothesia or hypoalgesia
    Difficulty opening the mouth
    Inclination of the tongue when it protrudes
    Aphasia
    Paralysis of the soft palate
    Disappearance of the gullet response
  • Exophthalmos
  • Dysphagia
  • Platoplegia
  • Asymmetry of the palate
  • Severe, splitting headaches with dizziness
  • Sudden tinnitus or deafness
  • Flushed face
  • Red, swollen, painful eyes
  • Irascibility with violent angry outbursts
  • Dry mouth
  • Bitter taste in mouth
