SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS (SEBORRHEA)

GENERAL

Clinical Manifestations	A scaling disease of the scalp and face, and sometimes other parts of the body It is thought to be genetically determined It is frequently seen in people with AIDS and Parkinson's disease The onset is gradual: The main symptom is a diffuse dry or greasy dandruff of the scalp Some itching As it progresses: Yellow-red scaling papules appear: Along the hairline Behind the ears In the external ear canals On the eyebrows On the bridge of the nose On the nasolabial folds Other areas are: Back Sternal area Axillae Groin Perineum Obese patients: Under the pendulous abdomen Women: Under the breasts Infants: In the first month of life may develop a thick, yellow, crusted scalp lesion called "cradle cap" Red facial papules may appear A stubborn diaper rash

Herb Formulas	Jing Fang Bai Du San Shi Wei Bai Du San Xiao Feng San Topical: Dermatitis Compress #1 Dermatitis Paste #1 San Huang Xi Ji Qing Dai Gao Da Huang Bing Pian Fang Cut open a pig Gall Bladder and empty the contents into a bowl. Use a sterile cotton ball or clean washcloth to repeatedly wash the sites until the greasy scales have been removed. Then wash the sites with warm water (no soap) and pat dry. Apply once a day. Use a fresh Gall Bladder each day.
Points	Ear: Liver, Endocrine, Spleen, Occiput, Adrenal, Kidney. Select 2-3 points. Retain the needles for 30 minutes. Treat once daily.

DAMP-HEAT

Clinical Manifestations	Red, eroded weeping lesions The scales and crusts are greasy The lesions often exude an unpleasant odor There may be fissures on and around the lesions that affect the nasolabial folds and behind the ears
