POINT: SP-11 (SPLEEN-11)

NAME: JIMEN

English: Winnowing Gate
Also Known As: Basket's Door

LOCATION:

  • On the medial side of the thigh, 6 cun superior to SP-10 Xuehai, on the line connecting SP-10 Xuehai and SP-12 Chongmen.
    Note: Locate two hand breadths superior to SP-10 Xuehai.
    Note: locate midway between the tibiofemoral joint line and SP-12 Chongmen.
  • 6 cun above SP-10 Xuehai, on the medial aspect of the sartorius muscle.

NEEDLING:

  • Perpendicular insertion 0.5 to 1 cun.
  • Caution: Deep needling may puncture the femoral artery.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.
  • Straight insertion 1 to 2 cun.

  • Pain and swelling of the inguinal region
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Muscular atrophy, motor impairment, pain and paralysis of the lower extremities
