- Fr. Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Yi Zhi Ren is used for excessive salivation and a thick, unpleasant taste in the mouth due to Cold while Hb. Eupatorii Pei Lan is used for the same symptoms due to Heat.
- It can be used alone as a powder for uterine bleeding.
- It is often used with Ootheca Mantidis Sang Piao Xiao.
- This herb was traditionally used to enhance intelligence and mental faculties.
- Both Yi Zhi Ren and Fr. Psoraliae Bu Gu Zhi tonify the Spleen and Kidneys, fortify Yang, stop diarrhea, astringe Jing and urine and are commonly used to treat Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency. Bu Gu Zhi Primarily warms the Kidneys thereby indirectly warms the Spleen Yang. It treats chronic diarrhea and cock-crow diarrhea due to Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency. It also treats lower back pain. Yi Zhi Ren more strongly warms Spleen Yang, and secondarily warms the Kidneys to treat diarrhea associated with with the exposure of the Spleen and Stomach to Cold. it also treats uterine bleeding.
- Salt-prepared Alpinia Yan Yi Zhi Ren has reduced acrid and drying properties and directly enters the Lower Jiao to astringe Jing and urine. It is often used to treat Kidney Yang Deficiency with spermatorrhea, nocturnal emissions, incontinence, terminal dribbling and nocturia.
