CONTRAINDICATIONS

Contraindicated for those with diarrhea due to Spleen and Stomach Deficiency Cold.
Contraindicated for those with sores due to Qi Deficiency.
Contraindicated for those with Yin ulcers.

This herb is called “the stem that resists winter”.
It is primarily used to treat abscesses and sores and Wind-Damp-Heat-Bi.
This herb may substitute for Flos Lonicerae Japonica Jin Yin Hua.
Its actions are focused on the channels.
It unblocks channels and collaterals to stop pain – for Wind-Heat Bi.
The dry vine is not as rapid in its effect as the fresh.
Both Ren Dong Teng and Flos Lonicerae Jin Yin Hua clear Heat and resolve toxicity. Ren Dong Teng is not as strong, but it can expel Wind-Heat from the channels and collaterals to stop pain which Jin Yin Hua cannot do. Ren Dong Teng is therefore useful for Wind-Damp-Heat Bi and for abscesses and sores.
Both Ren Dong Teng and Caulis Sargentodoxae Hong Teng resolve toxicity, reduce sores, clear Heat, and treat Bi Syndrome and abdominal pain. Ren Dong Teng clears Wind-Heat from the collaterals to stop pain while Hong Teng resolves toxicity, invigorates Blood, stops pain and treats breast and abdominal abscesses.
