- This herb is a powerful dispersing agent, used similar to other hot spicy herbs to treat either a Cold syndrome or congested Qi. If Qi is weak use Qi tonics (see contraindications).
- This herb has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
- This herb is said to cure frequent regurgitation with watery diarrhea accompanied by undigested food in the stool.
- This herb is effective in treating nausea and diarrhea due to Cold, acute gastroenteritis due to sunstroke and stomach ache due to Stomach Qi Deficiency.
- This herb, Fr. Evodiae Rutaecarpae Wu Zhu Yu, and Rz. Zingiberis Gan Jiang all disperse Cold from the Middle Jiao and treat Cold pain in the epigastrium. Gan Jiang also warms the Lungs , transforms Phlegm, stops cough and warms the Spleen to stop Cold pain and diarrhea. Wu Zhu Yu also warms the Lower Jiao and treats hernia pain and diarrhea due to Cold in the Lower Jiao and belching and vomiting when the Liver is involved. Gao Liang Jiang warms the Stomach and treats Cold epigastric pain with belching and vomiting.
- Both Gao Liang Jiang and Rz. Zingiberis Recens Sheng Jiang warm the Middle, disperse Cold and settle nausea. The warming quality of Gao Liang Jiang is greater than its acrid-dispersing quality and it mobilizes the the Interior, warms Stomach Cold and stops pain. to treat nausea due to intense Cold in the Stomach. The acrid- dispersing quality of Sheng Jiang is greater than its warmth. It mobilizes the Exterior, disperses Wind-Cold and harmonizes the Stomach to stop nausea. It mobilizes Yang and disperses Qi.
- Dry-fried Lesser Galangal Chao Liang Jiang has a reduced acrid-dispersing quality to restrain the Middle and enter the Blood level.
- Evodia-fried Lesser Galangal Wu Yu Chao Liang Jiang has a stronger ability to warm the Middle and stop nausea and vomiting due to Stomach Cold.
- Earth-fried Lesser Galangal Tu Chao Liang Jiang has a greater ability to harmonize and warm the Middle.
