- This herb can be used as a stand alone herb or melted in warm rice or millet wine.
- It is used when there is bleeding due to Deficiency of Blood and Yin with Heat damaging the vessels.
- For bleeding during pregnancy, dry-fry and use as a powder.
- It is generally used with Qi and Blood tonics to enhance their effects.
- Both E Jiao and Rx. Rehmanniae Shu Di Huang enter the Liver and Kidney channels, nourish Blood, enrich Kidney Yin and treat Blood Deficiency and gynecological disorders such as irregular menstruation or pregnancy or postpartum disorders. Shu Di Huang generates Jing and augments marrow, while E Jiao enriches Lung Yin and stops bleeding. Both substances are greasy and can interfere with digestion.
- E Jiao nourishes the Blood, moistens Dryness and expels Heat. Rx Polygoni Multiflori He Shou Wu enters the Liver, tonifying Blood to expel, Wind and blackens the hair and beard. but is unable to moisten Dryness and settle wheezing. Colla Cornus Cervi Lu Jiao Jiao warms the Du channel and the Chong channel to augment Blood, but cannot clear Lung channel Heat and stop coughing. Colla Plastri Testudinis Gui Ban powerfully tonifies Jue Yin, fills the Ren channel to reduce Heat and expel steaming bone disorder, but cannot tonify Yang within Yin.
- Ass-Hide Glue Pearls E Jiao Zhu or clam-powder fried Ass-Hide Glue Ge Fen Chao E Jiao or fried Ass-Hide Glue Chao E Jiao better nourishes the Lung Yin to moisten the Lungs, stops cough and transforms Phlegm. It is frequently used for dry cough and wheezing due to Lung Dryness or consumptive cough when Yin has been injured and Fire is over-abundant, particularly if there is coughing up of Blood.
- Pollen Typhae Fried Ass-Hide Glue Pu Huang Chao E Jiao nourishes the Blood and moistens Dryness. it also invigorates the Blood, transforms Stasis, stops bleeding and harmonizes the collaterals. It tonifies without being cloying, and stops bleeding without Stagnation. It is used for gynecological disorders such as threatened miscarriage or continuous uterine bleeding.
