Rx. Platycodi | Jie Geng | 9g | Opens the Lungs, spreads Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, benefits the throat, expels pus and raises Lung Qi, directing the effects of other herbs to the upper body. With Zhi Gan Cao, disseminates Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, resolves toxicity, and expels pus for productive cough with hoarseness, pain and swelling of the throat due to Wind-Heat and Lung abscess with expectoration of pus and pain in the chest and flanks. With Zhi Gan Cao and Yi Yi Ren, for Lung abscess with chest pain, fever, cough with foul-smelling, yellow, sticky sputum. |

- This formula treats nasal congestion, rhinitis and sinusitis as a result of a Wind Invasion or which remain after the signs of Wind have disappeared.
- With modifications, this formula is also used for allergic rhinitis which is not associated with an External Invasion.
