POINT: GB-14 (GALL BLADDER-14)

LOCATION:

  • Directly above the pupil of the eye and 1 cun above the midpoint of the eyebrow (one third the distance between the eyebrow and the hairline) in the depression on the superciliary arch.
  • On the forehead, 1 cun superior to the middle of the eyebrow, directly above the pupil when the eyes are looking straight ahead.
    Note: the distance between the glabella and the anterior hairline is 3 cun.
  • 1 cun above the middle of the eyebrow on a line directly above the pupil of the eye, in the depression on the superciliary arch.

NEEDLING:

  • With the fingers of one hand, pinch up the skin over the point, and with the other hand needle transversely in an inferior direction, 0.5 to 0.8 cun, or needle to connect with M-HN-6 Yuyao at the midpoint of the eyebrow.
  • Transverse insertion pointed downward, may join with M-HN-6 Yuyao. For facial paralysis, the needle may be pointed left or right, joining with UB -2 Zanzhu or SJ-23 Sizhukong, 1 to 1.5 cun. Sensation: distention in the forehead, sometimes extending to the vertex.
  • Puncture subcutaneously 0.3 to 0.5 cun.
  • Moxibustion is applicable.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

NOTES:

  • This is the pre-eminent local point for the treatment of pain of the forehead.
  • This is also a major point for treating diseases of the eyes and eyelids.
  • It is frequently used to eliminate Exterior Wind to treat facial paralysis.
  • If the patient cannot form ridges on the forehead by raising the eyebrows, this point should be needled on the affected side.
