- This is an inexpensive substitute for Hb. Cistanches Rou Cong Rong in Qi and Blood Deficient constipation, its moistening properties are less.
- It is not for Excess conditions.
- In the past, it was considered a medicinal for life extension, but today it is used more for muscular innervation to treat motor impairment and paralysis especially in later life.
- Both Suo Yang and Hb. Cistanches Rou Cong Rong tonify Yang, moisten the Intestines, unblock the bowels and are sweet, salty and warm. Rou Cong Rong is better able to augment Jing and Blood and is better to treat infertility but is less warming of the Kidney Yang. Suo Yang moistens Dryness and nourishes the sinews and treats impotence and is used for impotence and atrophy of the sinews and bones. Suo yang can substitute for Rou Cong Rong in cases of clumped constipation in deficient patients.
- Suo Yang, Hb. Cistanches Rou Cong Rong and Testes et Penis Callorhini Hai Gou Shen are all salty, augment the Jing, and tonify Kidney to treat male impotence. The three are similar in effect. Suo Yang and Rou Cong Rong enter the Large Intestine channel and are both used for constipation. Hai Gou Shou does not. It enters the Liver and Kidney channels and strengthens the low back and knees which have been weakened by Kidney Deficiency. Suo Yang is stronger in its ability to strengthen the sinews. Hai Gou Shen is more warming than Rou Cong Rong but less nourishing of the Jing and Blood.
- Wine-fried Cynomorium Jiu Chao Suo Yang is stronger at tonifying Kidney Yang.
