- It is commonly used for problems associated with an Excess of pensiveness or overwork.
- Use singly in porridge for weak people, people recovering from illness, old people and women after delivery.
- It can be used alone to treat Spleen and Heart Deficiency.

- It supplements the Qi of the Spleen and Heart in people with Blood Deficiency.
- It is used as a food and confection - excessive use will damage the Spleen.
- This herb has been noted historically to quiet the emotions and treat aversion to food.

- Both Long Yan Rou and Fr. Jujube Da Zao are sweet, warm, augment Qi and Blood , tonify the Spleen and Stomach and calm the Spirit. Da Zao is less able to calm the Spirit but can moderate the harsh effects of other herbs, preventing them from injuring the Spleen. Long Yan Rou is more sweet and warm, which enhances the Spleen and is more moistening to tonify Blood more than Qi. It is better able to calm the Spirit, enhance the emotions and enrich the Heart.
