- This herb is often used in postpartum disorders.
- It also acts on distention due to Fluid retention or Fluid retention due to Blood Stasis or Food Stagnation.
- It is good for metal wounds that bleed ceaselessly.
- It can be used alone topically as a powder for bleeding.
- It can be used individually internally for indigestion.
- Both Liu Ji Nu and Ophicalcitum Hua Rui Shi invigorate blood, transform Blood Stasis, and can be applied topically to stop bleeding. They are both used in postpartum disorders. Liu Ji Nu is bitter to drain and descend and warm to unblock. It primarily breaks up Blood Stasis and stops bleeding due to obstruction. Hua Rui Shi is sour and astringent to restrain bleeding while removing Stagnation.
- Southern Liu Ji Nu, Nan Liu Ji Nu is the standard product.
- Northern Liu Ji Nu, Bei Liu Ji Nu is a Yin moving herb. is often used in place of Hb. Artemisiae Scopariae Yin Chen. Its clinical actions are somewhere between Lu Ji Nu and Yin Chen, invigorating the Blood, reducing swelling and stopping pain. I also clears Heat and facilitates urination to treat Damp-Heat disorders involving Blood Stasis and amenorrhea due to fluid retention of topically for trauma.
