- This is a non-standardized preparation of a fermented mixture of wheat flour, bran, and various herbs including Hb. Artemisiae Annuae Qing Hao, Sm. Armeniacae Xing Ren, Fr. Xanthii Cang Er Zi, Sm. Phaseoli Chi Xiao Dou, Rz. Atractylodis Macrocephalae Bai Zhu, and other herbs depending on the particular mixture chosen.
- This herb is best for problems due to overindulgence in alcohol and starches and grains.
- This herb is also added to pills that contain minerals to aid in their digestion and absorption.
- It directs Qi downward, transforms Phlegm, drives out water and transforms thin mucus.
- In children, it tonifies the Spleen.
- It reduces lactation and facilitates weaning.
- Unfermented Medicated Leaven, Jian Shen Qu regulates Qi, transforms Dampness, and abates and transforms congestion and disperses Wind-Cold.
- Dry-fried Medicated Leaven, Chao Shen Qu has a reduced dispersing action but an enhanced ability to strengthen the Spleen, harmonize the Stomach, reduce Food Stagnation and regulate the Middle Jiao.
- Scorched Medicated Leaven Jiao Shen Qu has a greatly enhanced ability to reduce Food Stagnation and can be used alone.
