- This herb can be applied externally to assist blackening of the hair and to stop bleeding.
- This herb has recently been used to treat Damp-related disorders of the perineum, such as perineal itching and vaginal itching. it is generally used as an external wash.
- This herb has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
- It is said that violent hematemesis can be cured with a decoction of this herb, young boy's urine, pounded ink stick and Nodus Nelumbinis Rhizomatis Ou Jie.
- For hematochezia, calcine, pound and powder this herb, then take 6g at a time.
- For migraine and other types of headache drop the juice of this herb into the nose.
- Both Mo Han Lian and Fr. Ligustri Lucidi Nu Zhen Zi enrich Kidney Yin and augment the Liver. Mo Han Lian strongly tonifies the Yin, blackens the hair and cools the blood to stop bleeding. Nu Zhen Zi is less tonifying but cools Heat due to Yin Deficiency and brightens eyes.
- Charred Eclipta Han Lian Tan is better able to stop bleeding, but is less able to tonify Yin and cool.
- This herb is considered the main Yin tonic without an oily quality.
- This herb has a reputation for slowing down the signs of aging.
- The juice of this herb treats diphtheria and dysentery when ingested and treats headaches when applied topically to the nasal cavity.
- The fresh herb has stronger Heat clearing and Blood cooling functions than the dried herb.
- Hb. Hypericum Ascyron Hong Han Lian is is sometimes used as a substitute for Mo Han Lian. It is stronger at cooling the Blood, invigorating the Blood and healing sores and ulcers. Mo Ha Lian stops bleeding and is more effective at tonifying the Kidney Yin.
