- This is a recent addition to the pharmacopia, first noted in the twentieth century.
- It is said to treat the common cold due to Wind-Heat, tonsillitis, dysentery, coronary artery disease, vasculitis, erysipelas, central retinitis, uveitis, suppurative dermal disease, Buerger's disease, Angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, hypertension and thromboangitis obliterans.
- Both Mao Dong Qing and Rx. Salviae Miltiorrhizae Dan Shen invigorate and cool the Blood. Mao Dong Qing enters the Heart and Spleen, is bitter and draining and acrid and dispersing. It is stronger at resolving toxicity, cools the Lungs, transforms Phlegm and stops cough. Dan Shen is bitter, slightly Cold, and enters the Blood levels of the Liver, Heart and Pericardium. It invigorates the Blood, transforms Stasis and tonifies and cools the Blood. It reduces swelling and eliminates irritability and is more appropriate for gynecological use than Mao Dong Qing.
