- This herb is a stronger astringent than Sm. Nelumbinis Lian Zi, but is weaker as a tonic.
- It is appropriate for thin semen due to excessive sexual activity.
- It cools the Heart, astringes Jing, blackens the hair, stops hematemesis and remedies leakage and drainage.
- Lian Xu, Sm. Nelumbinis Lian Zi, Fossilia Ossis Mastodi Long Gu and Concha Ostreae Mu Li are all astringent in nature. Lian Xu is more astringent than Lian Zi. It is appropriate for exhausted Jing due to repeated sexual activity. Long Gu is Cold-binding which astringes the Yin, settles the ethereal soul and quiets the corporeal soul. Mu Li is salty, astringent and cold and also transforms hardness and resolves Heat.
