- In South East Asia the leaves, and sometimes the flowers, are used to make herbal tea. The tea is refreshing and used to treat fevers and lassitude.
- The eaves are used as an ingredient of native medicine given to mother after childbirth in Malaysia and Indonesia.
- The essential oil is used in massage to treat rheumatism
- The Malays use it as a tonic for women after childbirth and the ground leaf powder is also rubbed over the body
- In Vietnam, it is used to treat influenza, headache, measles, colic and jaundice. Here the treatment is in the form of fumigation of the dried plant or inhalation of vapors from boiling of the fresh plant in water.
- It is also used for dyspepsia, dysentery and menstrual disorders.
- In Indochina, the leaves and flowers are used for catarrh, headache and rheumatism.
