- Some sources classify this herb in the “Herbs that Expel Parasites ” category.
- Although this herb is not particularly effective in expelling parasites, it is able to alleviate pain and is therefore used to eliminate abdominal pain due to accumulation of parasites.
- This herb is especially useful in cases of Liver Qi Stagnation with Heat signs.
- Side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspnea, palpitations and arrhythmias. The ripe fruit is the most toxic.
- This herb is most often used to treat Heart, Liver, Stomach and Intestinal pain.
- This herb is also used to treat stagnant Qi that is hot in nature.
- This herb is also excellent for flank and lower abdominal pain.
- This herb also clears Damp-Heat by guiding it out through the urine.
- This herb is used topically, as a paste for fungal infections of the scalp. It is roasted, ground into a powder and mixed with sesame oil. Clean the scalp with salt water prior to application.
- Dry-fried Toosendan Chao Chuan Lian Zi is less bitter and Cold and is less upsetting to the digestion.
- Vinegar-fried Toosendan Cu Chao Chuan Lian Zi is better able to stop pain and warming to prevent digestive upset.
