- This herb is used when a Heat syndrome is damaging fluids or causing bleeding.
- An extract is used in douches for trichomonas vaginitis.
- It is in the same family as goldenseal.
- It treats Hot dysenteric disorders with a bearing-down sensation or tenesmus, especially where bleeding is involved.
- It can be used as an enema for dysenteric disorders.
- This herb can be used alone internally or topically for hemorrhoids.
- This herb can be used alone Internally or topically for scrofula.
- Other sources say that this herb treats warm malarial disorders with frequent thrashing, delirium, chills, fever, abdominal masses, accumulation and goiter; drives out Blood, stops pain, treats metal sores, nosebleeds, toxic red dysenteric disorders, abdominal pain, toothache, pain in all of the joints, scrofula on the lower neck, all types of Wind, warms the lower back, brightens the eyes and dissolves warts.
- Bai Tou Weng, Fr. Bruceae Ya Dan Zi and Hb. Portulacae Ma Chi Xian all clear Heat, resolve toxicity and treat dysenteric disorders. They are used together to treat bleeding dysenteric disorders due to Heat toxin. Ma Chi Xian primarily treats red dysenteric disorders with mucus and Blood, partly because it cools the Blood and stops bleeding. Ya Dan Zi primarily treats dysenteric disorders that alternate between mild and severe, or seem to be cured and then recur. Bai Tou Weng treats both types.
