Excess Heat from the Lungs. With Ma Huang, for cough from Heat Obstructing the Lungs with wheezing, flaring of the nostrils and fever. With Huang Qin, Huang Lian and Huang Bai, for toxic Heat with infection. |
Rx. Scutellariae | Huang Qin | 3-10g | Clears Heat, Drains
Fire, detoxifies, cools the Blood and stops
bleeding. With Huang Lian, drains pathogenic Heat from the Upper and Middle Jiaos for high fever, redness, swelling and pain of the head and face, dry mouth, parched throat, ulcerations of the mouth and tongue, epistaxis, rashes and irritability in warm-febrile disease. With Huang Lian and Zhi Zi, for acute febrile disease. With Zhi Zi, powerfully clears and drains lurking Heat from the Lungs with fever, fullness in the chest, cough with yellow sputum and epistaxis or hematemesis. |

Rx. Ephedrae | Ma Huang | 3-9g | Induces sweating, releases the Exterior, disseminates and facilitates Lung Qi, calms wheezing and stops coughing. |
Sm. Sojae Preparatum | Dan Dou Chi | 3-10g | Releases the Exterior, eliminates irritability, harmonizes the Middle Jiao and relieves stuffy sensations in the chest. |
Rz. Zingiberis Recens | Sheng Jiang | 3-6g | Releases the Exterior, induces
perspiration disperses Cold and reduces
the toxicity of other herbs. With Ma Huang, strongly creates sweating to treat all externally contracted Wind-Cold disorders, especially those in which Wind-Cold has constrained Lung Qi with cough and wheezing and the failure of Lung Qi to descend causing nausea and vomiting. With Da Zao,protects the Stomach Qi and reduces irritation of the gastrointestinal tract by other herbs. |
