Rx. Paeoniae Rubra Chi Shao 4.5-15g Clears Heat, cools the Blood, activates Blood, dispels Blood Stasis and clears Liver Fire.
Rz. Anemarrhenae Zhi Mu 6-12g Clears Heat from the Qi Stage, clears Heat from the Lung and Stomach, drains Fire, nourishes Yin, moistens Dryness and generates fluids.
 With Shi Gao, for epidemic diseases.
Raw Rx. Rehmanniae Sheng Di Huang 5-30g Clears Heat. cools the Blood, nourishes Yin and Generates fluids
Cx. Moutan Mu Dan Pi 5-12g Clears Heat., cools and harmonizes the Blood, clears Deficiency Fire, activates Blood, dispels Blood Stasis, clears Liver Fire, drains pus and reduces swelling.
 With Chi Shao, for purpuric rash, hematemesis, and Heat injuring the Ying and Xue levels.
Hb. Lophatheri Dan Zhu Ye 6-16g Clears Heat, eliminates irritability, promotes urination and clears Damp-Heat.
 With Shi Gao, for late stage febrile disease with residual fever, sensations of Heat in the chest, desire for cold drinks, and a red tongue with a thin coat.
With Shi Gao and Zhi Mu, for febrile disease with irritability and thirst.
Fr. Forsythiae Lian Qiao 6-30g Clears Heat, especially in the Upper Jiao, relieves toxicity, reduces abscesses and dissipates clumps.
 With Jin Yin Hua, for initial stage Wind-Heat.
Fr. Gardeniae Zhi Zi 3-12g Clears Heat, reduces Fire, eliminates irritability, drains Damp-Heat, cools Blood, relieves toxicity, reduces swelling and activates Blood.
Flos Lonicerae Jin Yin Hua 6-20g Clears Heat, resolves Fire toxicity, vents and disperses External Wind-Heat and clears Damp-Heat from the Lower Jiao.
 With Shi Gao and Zhi Mu, for Qi Stage Heat.
With Gan Cao, for toxic swelling and sores.
Gypsum Shi Gao 9-60g Clears Heat in the Qi Stage, drains Fire and heals eczema, burns and ulcerated sores and wounds.
 With Zhi Mu, for high fever from Wind-Heat or Qi Stage Heat or Yang Ming Heat with irritability and extreme thirst.
Rx. Platycodi Jie Geng 3-9g Spreads Lung Qi, expels Phlegm, expels pus and directs the effects of other herbs to the upper body.
Rx. Glycyrrhizae Gan Cao 2-12g Clears Heat, detoxifies and moderates and harmonizes the effects of the other herbs.
 With JIn Yin Hua, for Damp rashes or acne.

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS

  • Small coin sized red maculae located on the scalp, body, extremities, and other areas that increase rapidly
  • There is a covered scale
  • Removing the scale reveals a light pink shining membrane
  • Most severe during the summer
  • Chronic patients may see it in any season
  • Beneath the membrane are petechiae
  • The lesions heal without scarring
  • There may be nail involvement with stippling
  • Rarely presents as diffuse redness of the skin covered by fine scales or pitting of the nail plate
  • Itching may be intense
  • Aversion to Heat
  • Restlessness
  • Dry stools
  • Yellow, scanty urine
  • Intense fever
  • Strong thirst
  • Dry heaves
  • Severe, stabbing headache
  • Extreme irritability
  • Delirious speech (severe)
